With discharge papers in his pocket,
Ramón boarded a westbound train.

At last his familia were together.

Ramón searched for Luis and dodged Paz.

Paz

                                "Oh, Berta,"  Paz cried,

"If only he hadn't kissed me."

But at Dos Corazones, Mariano changed Paz's life.

Ahead, in a level clearing strewn with storm-cast leaves,
 they saw a casa grande.

In the patio where he dismounted, there was only the wind murmuring in the corners,

the hiss of dry brown leaves scudding across unglazed tiles.

Los Nuestros became the showplace

that Ramón had envisioned.

Obregon's troops had liberated political prisoners from San Juan de Ulua.

And Pablo Valente was among them.

Domingo's decision would determine the rest of his life.
